Where did the summer go?

Where did the summer go?

Beautiful time in Saskatoon performing and teaching at the Prairie Music Residency. Many thanks to William Martin who ran an excellent event! I made some new friends and got to work with coductor, Joe Parisi, who continues to be an inspiration to me! I played a recital, taught two masterclasses, ran some sectionals and played 3 solo pieces with the brass band. It was loads of fun and I really enjoyed my time in Saskatoon!

In July, I spent 2 weeks in Finland with Seraph Brass. We rehearsed in Helsinki and then traveled to Lieksa to take part in the Lieksa Brass Week. We played two full recitals and coached many chamber groups.

The summer started with the Prizm International Chamber Festival in June. I taught and performed at this event with my colleagues in Lantana Trio. We had a blast in Memphis and I finally got to see Beale Street and eat some great Memphis BBQ!

Brass Band fun!

Brass Band fun!

I had a great convo with Melissa Brown on her awesome podcast, Bold as Brass. Check it out!

On May 12-13, 2023 – I had the honor to serve as an adjudicator at the Great Canadian Brass Band Festival along with Aaron Campbell and Kevin Norbury. Congrats to Anita McAlister and everyone involved with this endeavor. I thought it was a smashing success! Also, this is the 2nd time I’ve been to Toronto this year and I have to say that May in Toronto ☀️ is much nicer than January! 🥶 I also got to hear Gary Curtin (euphonium) perform for the first time and was floored by his artistry- he played Vizzutti’s “Carnival of Venus” 😮.

Global Music Award – Silver Medal

Lantana Trio’s debut album, “Crossing Barries” won a Silver Medal – Outstanding Achievement recognition in the Trio category of the Global Music Awards. The album is under the MSR Classics Label and consists of music for brass trio by underrepresented composers. Lantana commissioned 4 new pieces by composers: Jeff Scott, Shanyse Strickland, Dorothy Gates, and Ivette Herryman Rodriguez. They were also part of a commissioning consortium for the piece by Erik Morales. The Lauren Bernofsky piece, “Trio for Brass” is becoming a staple in the brass trio genre.
